FRESH AND FLORAL – SPRING’S TOP 3 FRAGRANCES

When temperature gets warmer, eating healthy and wearing colorful skirts are not the only wishes that appear – trying new, fresh and floral fragrances can also be part of the picture. Personally, I love switching perfumes depending on my mood, and as my mood often depends of the weather I just feel like spring is the best moment of the year for me to enrich my fragrance collection. So here is my TOP3 of latest discoveries: Caudalie’s Rose de Vigne, Emeshel’s Sweet Folly and Roger&Gallet’s Fleur de Figuier.

Rose de Vigne by Caudalie

This is a very bucolic perfume – Mathilde Thomas, Caudalie’s founder, was inspired by her personal souvenirs of Château Smith Haut Lafitte where vineyards and a countless number of roses grow in a symbiotic relationship – the idea of combining the two in order to compose a new spring fragrance came to her very naturally and that’s how Rose de Vigne is born. With heady notes of refreshing grapefruit and unexpected rhubarb, heart notes of blackcurrant and roses from Grasse, France, and base notes of magnolia, musk and ambery woods, this fragrance is very feminine and delicate, reminiscent of early morning’s lightness.

Sweet Folly by Emeshel

Still very new on the market, Emeshel’s “Les cinq parfumeurs” line is a unique concept that allowed to five of the world’s top perfumers to create a scent they loved themselves ( as you might know, perfumers usually have to work in a tight frame of defaults given by the brands). I tried them all and couldn’t help being attracted by the most floral of them, the Sweet Folly, which is a creation of Jean-Claude Delville – the man that is behind various global successes such as Clinique Happy, Vera Wang, Kenzo, Givenchy and Victoria’s Secret. Sweet Folly’s head note is a fruity mix of mango, guava and raspberry, it’s very tonic and refreshing heart notes are orange flowers and frangipiani (small tropical flowers) and the base notes are made of aromatic sandalwood and vanilla.

Fleur de Figuier by Roger&Gallet

Although I love the major part of Roger&Gallet’s line, this Fleur de Figuier is in my opinion the very best of them. The perfume is not too sugary, not too floral – just right,  in addition to the top notes of fig blossoms and fig leafs, it contains a heart note of tangerine blossoms and some slightly woody base notes, but the woody scent is very discreet, it’s a predominatley fruity and floral scent. Overall the fragrance is a very  vibrant, cheerful and sweet one – If it was a color, well… it would be a whole rainbow.
