THE PULITZER AMSTERDAM STOLE MY HEART
When picking a hotel to stay in Amsterdam, I asked my Instagram followers for recommendations, something I do quite often when I’m planning a trip by myself and not for work. The large majority of recommendations I got was for the Pulitzer hotel, and for good reasons:
- Location
When you say heart of Amsterdam, you imagine gracious canals, artisan coffee shops and tons of little bikes everywhere – well this is also what you get when looking by the windows of the Pulitzer. The hotel is basically situated in the middle of Amsterdam’s Negen Straatjes, otherwise known as the 9 Little Streets, and its property is made up of a block of 25 gorgeously restored 17th and 18th century canal houses as well as a labyrinth of inner gardens. Big tourist attractions like the Anne Frank House and the Rijksmuseum are a few minutes away and, instagrammers will appreciate that fact, it is literally on the corner of PLUK and REE7, two trendy coffee places I just adored.
- Aesthetics
Scandi style meets contemporary vibes – the Pulitzer Amsterdam is one of those hotels that just calls for an instagram picture. Eclectic art pieces, colorful furniture, marble tabletops, golden details … and the most photogenic game of lights possible, so many luminous corridors followed by subdued rooms – the contrasts make the whole vibes there pretty unique.
Our room was everything I wished for; spacious, luminous and well furnished – I had a personal crush on the gray sofa and small pink pouf, overall the color palette was so refreshing. My highlight definitely was the canal view we had from our room, as we woke up quite early we witnessed the awakening of the city every morning, it is incredibly relaxing to observe how the sun rises over the canal and the typical Dutch houses, especially when you get to sip your hot coffee while sitting by the window. We’ve been welcomed in the room with local beer and stroopwaffels, and throughout the day we’ve literally been showered with various treats, from air balloons and chocolate strawberries on the occasion of the Valentine’s Day, to boxes of heart-shaped candies left on our bed after the evening cleaning shift. So thoughtful!
The bathroom wasn’t lacking in treats neither, I’ve been thrilled to discover some amenities designed especially for the hotel by Le Labo – beauty addicts know that this, this is the ultimate sophistication.
During our stay we got to discover the Pulitzer’s two restaurants; the Pause, where we had breakfasts – a bright garden café with the most phenomenal marble bar I’ve ever seen, and the Jansz where we celebrated the Valentine’s Eve with a couple of cocktails and some truffle Orrecchiette pasta I’ll remember for a long, long time.
